INSURANCE LICENSE IN CALIFORNIA

The video is offered by Health Agent Academy.

Show how to get a license to sell both life insurance and health insurance.

Referred to as “Full Life Agent.”

Two kinds of licenses: Accident and Health is one.  Life-Only License is another.

STEPS TO GET YOUR LICENSE
1.  Sign up for a pre-licensing course.  He said to start here: https://www.insurance.ca.gov/0200-industry/0030-seek-pre-lic/0100-requirements/index.cfm.
2.  Fingerprinting.  Print out a copy of this form and take it with you when you go to get fingerprints taken.  Get this done early on so that you're not holding up the process.
3.  Schedule your state exam.  California uses PSI company.
a.  Create an account.
b.  Register.
c.  Schedule an exam.
Double-check policies on re-scheduling if you need to.  When you're halfway done with the licensing course, what you can do is have it on the calendar.  Sometimes test centers fill up quickly.  So just get it on the calendar.

4.  License Application: Apply for both licenses, Life & Health.  FLASH: Fast Licensing Application Service is Here.
5.  Pass your test.
6.

PRE-LICENSING SCHOOLS
1.  License Coach.  Okay, so the narrator suggested License Coach for pre-licensing courses.  He claimed that they have some of this highest passing rates in the industry.  How to verify that?

Well, this is just crazy.  Kaplan, the tutoring company, offers help in insurance licensing?

COST
The courses are not cheap.  The Ethics course from License Coach is $200.  The narrator did recommend taking Life & Health rather Life alone or Health alone.  It's the same price, so his advice is prudent.

Okay, so here is another school, called Adjuster Pro that offers a Claims Adjuster course for $179, so it looks like the prices for courses don't vary that much.  But what is really important is the Pass Rate.  They have other courses that come in packages for much more.

PASS RATE
Here is a 2015 list of schools and their passing rates by state and by license type.  That's from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners or NAIC.

In California, it's 50%, according to the narrator.  He said that License Coach has one of the best pass rates.

TEST PREP
Kaplan offers several courses.
1.  Property and Casual
2.

PASS STRATEGIES
1.  What?

Insurance Sales Agent

This guy, Arthur Ingraham, made a good point--that you're better off getting 2 licenses: Life & Health AND Property & Casualty.  Why?  Because people prefer to get coverage for all of their possessions from a single insurer than having to shop around.  He recommends NAIC.  Good advice on his part.  In order to sell Life Insurance, you have to have a contract with a company.  You're acting as a middle-man between the company and the client.  If you don't have a company that you can represent, then you have nothing that you can sell.

CONTRACTS: 1) Captive Agents represent one insurance company.  Captive companies tend to spend a lot of money on advertising.  But you're also limiting your options in terms of the kinds of policies that you can sell a client.  Companies look at driver's differently, and that can be frustrating.  If you're representing one company, you may not always have the best rate of the clients coming through the door.

INDEPENDENT AGENT
Kind of like a brokerage, where they have contracts, not with just one company, but multiple companies.  They'll collect quotes from all the companies that they have contracts with . . . these companies look at risk differently and will assign a rate differently.  Same driver, same MBR, same credit score.

So first, get a license to sell insurance, and then contact companies to obtain a contract to sell insurance.

Here, Arthur talks about how an insurance settlement works.

Here, he talks about how to open an auto insurance business

Independent insurance agents are one of the 3 avenues to getting home, auto, and business insurance. But the differences can be hard to perceive. This video breaks down your options.

Here are some highlights:

The 3 access points to home, auto, and business insurance:

1. Online/800 Number
Go out and get your own insurance policies using a web portal or calling a hotline

2. Captive Agent
A local branch of a large insurance company. The term “captive” means the local representative works for the company.

3. Independent Agent
A small business that provides access to multiple insurance companies and advice about which company and coverage is best for you.

Pros & Cons of Each:

SPEED
Generally, the fastest way to get an insurance quote is through direct access to an online company. Their systems are automated and can give you a quote immediately. No advice about how good your policy is but fast.

LOCAL
Here both Captive and Independent Agents should have you covered. You can walk into their office, meet face to face, and talk through your insurance options.

QUALITY
When it comes to the best companies, high-quality coverage, and well-rounded advice, independent agents have every motivation to be the best option. They aren’t tied to one company so their advice is much less biased. They work with companies that focus on quality rather than blasting the airways with a billion ads.

PRICE:
It’s important to note that no company or insurance agent can ever claim to have the best price. That’s simply because price is constantly changing. When you’re looking for insurance, it’s a single moment in time. The company that’s the best right then may not be the best in a year.
Having said that, Independent agents have a huge advantage on price for two reason:
1. There is price competition inside the agency
Independent agencies work with multiple companies. So the companies know that they have to bring their best pricing every year to stay relevant. If they can’t, the agency can just move on.

2. Independent agents see the ebb and flow of price
Captive agents see one company all day long. This is the only company they can offer. Independents are motivated to be watching and connect with the companies that are most competitive.

So, What’s an Independent Insurance Agency:
• Access to multiple exclusive insurance companies
• Works for you, not the company
• Is motivated by quality and good advice
• Can usually find the best price and coverage
• Helps during claims

QUALITY CONTROL INSPECTOR

Looking at Loss Prevention position.  The position requires working with machinery, like Coordinate-measuring machines seen here as well as 3D scanners.

Tools that I will need to learn are:
1)  Micrometers.  These measures wear on movable, operating parts.
2)  Calipers.
3)  Gauges.

ANATOMY OF A MICROMETER
Frame or anvil, spindle, sleeve, thimble, ratchet stop.

Briefly, here is the job:
Quality control inspectors monitor quality standards for nearly all manufactured products, including foods, textiles, clothing, glassware, motor vehicles, electronic components, computers, and structural steel. Specific job duties vary across the wide range of industries in which these inspectors work.
Quality control workers rely on many tools to do their jobs. Although some still use hand-held measurement devices, such as calipers and alignment gauges, workers more commonly operate electronic inspection equipment, such as coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs) and three-dimensional (3D) scanners. Inspectors testing electrical devices may use voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters to test the potential difference, current flow, and resistance, respectively.
Quality control workers record the results of their inspections through test reports. When they find defects, inspectors notify supervisors and help to analyze and correct production problems.
In some firms, the inspection process is completely automated, with advanced vision inspection systems installed at one or several points in the production process. Inspectors in these firms monitor the equipment, review output, and conduct random product checks.
However, through to 2026, the job outlook for quality control inspectors is expected to decline by 11% due to automation.  Huh, all that one needs to do is scan a file, write a Twitter-sized report, and submit it.

WHERE IS MY W-2?

I called the IRS on March 16, 2018 (a Friday) to request a duplicate of my W-2. They confirmed my information and promised to ship out the duplicate, saying that it should arrive in 3 to 5 business days.  Today is March 29, 2018 (Thursday).  What's that? 13 days or 2 weeks?

So my question is where is it?
